another script i'd love is one that would take a bunch of layers a slide them forward or backward in the TWL within a given range...

-------layer1-------
-------layer2-------
-------layer3-------
-------layer4-------
-------layer5-------

becomes..

----layer1---------------
-----------------layer2--
------------layer3-------
-----layer4--------------
-------------layer5------

I've made one of those! :)

At the moment it is buried in a rather large script but I'll try and extract it for you soon...

Ok - I've done it now!

See the post titled: Layer power! "Instancer" and "Iterate Effect" scripts
in the General Scripts Library

To slide the layers randomly:
- Select all the layers you want to slide
- Move the time slider to the earliest time you want the layers to start from
- Run the IterateEffect tool
- Tick the "Enable Stagger" checkbox
- Select "random stagger" from the Start Times options
- Select "leave unchanged" from the End Times options
- Change the Stagger duration to the length of the time bracket (in seconds) you want the layers to be slid around in
- Click "Do it"

E.g. if you wanted your layers to start at random times between 2 and 6 seconds, you should move your time slider to 2sec (before running the tool) and change the stagger duration to 4sec.

You can also run the tool on a single precomp layer. It will slide all the layers inside the precomp.

HTH,

Miki
