I need a script to add one frame to a comp
Here's the deal. A lot of people build their shots at frame 1. When we need to add a slate we need it at frame 0. So, I need a script that would take selected comps from the project window, add one frame to them and slide all layers over so that they start at frame 1. That way we can paste the slate...

I got it!
thisProperty = thisComp.name
I was just about to bash in my computer screen when I tried this and it worked.
Whoever wrote the scripting guide and the AE help file on this should be taken out back and scrubbed with a wire brush!
The examples they wrote don't even work.

Comp Name
I can't get this to work: A text layer with the expression in the source text that will auto insert the name of that comp.
I've tried:
Comp.thisComp
thisComp
Comp(thisComp)
What am I missing?

never during save
I've never had the delay while saving a file, only collecting. I have noticed that sometimes it doesn't take nearly as long to collect if you save, close ae, open the project again then collect. I had a project while working on Garfield that had ~90 layers or so and took about an hour to collect. Si...

PC
I'm using a PC that's damn fast ... but it's taking about 15 min to show the collect dialog box. The project only has 2 pieces of footage. As I remember in v5, no matter how complicated or how much footage you had it collected in seconds. This sucks.

Collect Files takes forever
Does anyone know why AE -- since version 6 -- takes so long to collect files? Depending on how complex the comp, it seems to take longer and longer. I had a comp on Garfield -- the rats -- that was some 100 layers and it took between 40 min to an hour to get the collect dialog box. If it's checking ...

rings ...
Is there a lot of xyz motion ... or a simple arc if so, you could use particle world -- using cone -- to puff out something like smoke rings ... you could use this as a distortion too.

That's what I was looking for!
Thanks again for the code. I'll see if I can find that scripting guide.
I'm using the scrips on a windoze box and they work fine. I've also used them on X and they work fine there too.
Thanks

I don't have the install CD. This box was set up for me before I got here. I'll see if I can get someone to find it, but in the meantime you think it's

Thanks Chris!
That script is sweet. I'm at a new job now so I may have to change it a bit again.
Can you tell me what the code is for setting the project to 16 bit? I forgot.
Thanks

Already got one
I made the template a while ago... but I've got a lot of shots that have the old slates still in them... when I revisit the shot I update everything. From now on the template will work the best. These scripts are really sweet. Now I just hit my Render locations script containing the slate updates wh...

Yea ...
Yea, a bit long and probably clumsy... but you get it ... one to write the slate text which is just the version number then the other to put the enire, well almost, filename onto the burnin text. It works well though. The only thing is that I can't seem to write a script that creates these text laye...

Now that's sweet!
I've edited the script a little. Here's what I've done: ///////////////////////////////////// Begin new script for slates //"Update Project Name Text" script, version 1.3. //This script was created by Christopher R. Green on 5-8-2005 // (modified 5-9-2005) // using Tex-Edit Plus and jEdit....

I think you've done it.
I tried out the new script yesterday and it worked great. All slates were updated. If I wanted to clip a few characters off the front of a filename how would I do that? I think that piece of code is a sinch for you. As it turns out on the main slate they only want the version number rather than the ...

First day of testing
Ok, what I did was add your code to the bottom of the "Save and Increment" Script. I had to write expressions to the one layer that it was working on but other than that it worked great. Although, I didn't think about this at the time ... it adds the entire file name including the ".a...
