classes and keywords

Hello, I was just wondering to what extent does After FX use basic coding techniques in expressions?
Basic stuff like public variables & classes don't work even though the auto-fill recommends them.
Does this auto-fill recommend Javascript stuff that are irrelevant to After FX, or can I use them in a different way?
If I can have a public variable on a Null Object, that would change my life.
