I actually brought this up a couple years ago, but it didn't seem to go far.

It still seems possible to me, as long as you specify a reference frame so it has a "starting point" from which to begin calculating the camera movement.
Mark Christiansen details in his book (Studio Techniques) a technique for doing a stabilize, then parenting a 3d camera to the stabilized layer, effectively turning the shot into a simple 3d shot. this would be sort of the same thing, except instead of using the frame corners as the edges of the camera's viewing plane, it would use the corner pin's corners.
