Is it me, or is it just really fucking abysmal?
- trailing auto-braces are always created one line in
- tabs do not line up from row to row
- line selecting / moving tends to drag the next paragraph as well
- clicking the margin creates a breakpoint, rather than selecting the line
- you have to triple-click to select a line
- find and replace doesn't highlight the currently-replaced text
- auto complete is next to useless
- Data browser rarely works like you expect it
- it's not UTF8 compliant (UTF8 characters show as ?, even when set in the prefs)
I'm sure there's a ton of other stuff I've forgotten as well.
What does everyone else use to write their scripts?
Cheers,
Dave

The only reason i use it, it beacause of its preview button.
The little arrow, allows you, by clicking on it, to launch your script instantl inside the software you want (AF, toshop, etc..).
Otherwise, i must agree, the extended tool script is USLES.
Auto completion never shows what i exept (it shows mostly nothing at all).
The auto indentation( is taht the word in english), doesnt work well.
I cant find oppening/ closing bracket easyly.
I think, there is no proper aplication to script for adobe.
You'll nerver get auto completion, or stuff like that.

Actually, it's one saving grace is that when you set breakpoints the data browser comes into its own!

I use it because i have nothing else to use exept notepad. But the only specific feature i use is the anchor to run it directly into AE.

I don't use it either.
If you are on Windows, a great free replacement for notepad is programmers notepad 2.

It supports many languages.

I've always used ExtendScript Toolkit to write my scripts. It may well suck, but I have nothing to compare it by, so I wouldn't know. It's certainly better than using TextEdit.
I can't seem to use anything but jEdit (jedit.org). Love it. Made a 'run in ae' button that activates a beanshell macro to send the current buffer to AE. Of course, my scripts are generally pretty simple. I've sung jEdit's praises before, but no one seemed to take to it.
